Random Encounter #4-II ~ Aftermath

Prologue
A man sat in the shadows and looked upon the small room. He had resided in this chamber for centuries, trapped within by powerful magic, but that was going to change soon. He grinned evilly. “Abacus!” the man called.

A man with four large, black wings, long, black hair, and red clothing appeared holding a long blade that glowed red*. He regarded the man in the shadows. “Somehow, I knew you were going to call me. Who am I hunting down this time?”

The man in the shadows indicated a small pond in the middle of the room. Abacus looked into the pool and saw three people. A small, yet young lizard-man with green scales, a taller and much older red scaled lizard man, and an angel holding a golden shield. “I want them dead. I will pay you ten times as much as your last job.”

Abacus whistled. “Ten times? They must be a problem if you are gonna pay that much. Where do I find them?”

The man waved his hand and a new image appeared in the pool. It showed a small village with a large, black castle at the outskirts of the village. “You will find them there, in the Kingdom of Driss. Make sure none of them survive.”
Part One: An Old Enemy
The Lord appeared in a field, still gripping the cloaked man by the throat. He threw him to the ground as his eyes glowed brighter. “Now, now, Nicodemus. No need to get impatient. I have been waiting for 1000 years for this, and I will not rush my victory.” The cloaked man said as he stood up and brushed himself off.

“You haven’t changed one bit, Serris. I guess it will be a simple matter to kill you.” The Lord said as he advanced on Serris.

“Still arrogant, as always. But you are wrong, Nicodemus. I have changed much since our last encounter. I have learned ancient magic that allowed me to grow far stronger. If I defeat you, I can absorb your soul. And when I absorb your soul, I will become unstoppable.”

This time, the Lord laughed. “I guess it is time to end this once and for all then.” He said as there was a flash of bright light. Now Nicodemus was advancing upon Serris. “And this time, you won’t be coming back.”

“Not quite, Hellslayer Knight. I simply dropped by to say hello and that you are not the only one in danger.” Serris said. He then grabbed his cloak and ripped it off, revealing himself*. He grinned and vanished in a flash of light, laughter echoing throughout the field.

Part Two: The Bounty Hunters
Seth sighed. "Well, he didn't even stick around to congratulate us. How like him." He sounded pretty angry. "I think we deserve something for our efforts, but whatever." He stormed out of the room.

Aden rolled his eyes. "Seth, stop being such a child. We did something no one else has."

Azriel just walked past the two of them and out of the castle entirely, leaving them behind. Aden and Seth soon caught up, still arguing.

Azriel turned to the two lizards, gritting her teeth. "How about both of you shut your ale-holes and go get some rest?"

As Aden walked away, a strange sword struck the ground at his feet, the blade inches from his feet. It started to glow a bright red. Aden gasped. "Whoa. Okay, that's just ridiculous. First a 1000 page book falls on my foot, and now a goddamn sword wants to take my ability to walk correctly away from me?" He sighed and closed his eyes as the brightness intensified. "This day just keeps getting better and better..." He muttered.

The sword suddenly dimmed and Abacus was standing before the group. “Well well well. It seems my job will be easy this time.”

Seth looked over and cracked his neck, then his knuckles. "And you would be?" He said, still slightly angered.

Abacus grinned, showing his white teeth. “I am Abacus, the bounty hunter.” He said as he grabbed his sword and pulled it out of the ground.

Seth stepped forward, the sword the Lord had given him in hand. "Alright, whoever you are, you're gonna die. I'm NOT in the mood.”

Abacus’ grin widened. “How wrong you are, small fry.” He jumped forward, spun around, and kicked Seth hard in the chest. Seth flipped over in the air to steady himself. He landed on his feet and took off running right back towards Abacus. Abacus swept Seth’s feet out from under him and threw his sword at Aden. “I wonder why he wants you dead so badly. You are weak!”

Aden moved in the way of the sword and caught it by the hilt. "Weak, yeah. I totally caught your 120 miles an hour flying sword because I'm weak." He threw it back at Abacus at double the speed.

Abacus spun around and grabbed the sword, then swung the blade in his direction and a wave of fire rammed into Aden. “I’ve defeated people far better than you.” He said as he placed the blade against Seth’s throat. “It looks like it is time for you to die.” Seth reared his head back and bit the sword, attempting to use his venom to melt through it. Abacus grinned and was about to thrust the blade through Seth’s head when there was a nearby explosion as a man appeared holding a staff. Abacus looked up and his eyes narrowed. “What are you doing here, Zerus*?” He said, his voice suddenly cold and serious.

Zerus walked forward. “I’m here to stop you, brother.” His face was hidden by his helmet, but his eyes where easy to see as they glowed violet. “You cannot release Him.”

Abacus smiled ruefully. “So you would die for these worthless scum just because He wants free? Join us, and you will may just live through this ordeal.”

Azriel, Seth, and Aden were soon at the new person's side. Aden turned into his hybrid form and regarded Abacus with a cold expression. "Four against one are not good odds, my prey." He said calmly.

Abacus just smiled. “I always finish the job, salamander. Not even my brother can stop me.”

Aden looked at Abacus dryly. "Excuse me? I'm a reptile, not an amphibian."

“That doesn’t matter. You will still die.” Abacus pointed his sword at Zerus. “But first, I have a score to settle with my brother.

Azriel, Seth, and Aden stepped in front of Zerus. Seth placed one foot forward. "Hold it. You attacked us first. So we finish this now."

Zerus pushes the others out of the way. “You don’t know what you are dealing with. He always has been able to get his bounty.”

Aden smiled. "Who cares? Everyone fails once in a while." He said confidently as Annihilator appeared in his hand.

Zerus looked at Aden. “I will not let you fight him. He is my problem, not yours.” Zerus held up his staff and there was a flash of light. When it faded, Azriel, Aden, and Seth was standing in a dimly lit corridor, and somewhere deep inside, running water could be heard.

Seth gritted his teeth and slammed his fist into the wall. "Dammit! Just like someone to deny me my thirst for battle..."

Part Three: Demon Knights
Sombra pointed the dagger in his right hand at Ziel’s* neck. "And what are the Demon Knights?” Sombra tightened his grip on the dagger and started to corrupt it.

Ziel charged towards Sombra, kicked the dagger out of his hand and jumped above Sombra, catching the dagger in the air and in a split second the dagger was so corrupted that it withered away and became ashes. "You need to learn. Corruption is one of our powers, retribution is our objective. It is time for you to meet the others." Ziel whispered some words, and the ground below their feet started to crumble away. As the ground crumbled, green rays started to emit from Ziel, striking the three corpses close by. The corpses started to rot, skin and meat melting away, only leaving their armor and bones. Ziel continued whispering the strange words, getting inside Sombra mind. A magic circle started to form below them. The color of the circle was green, and it had what seemed to be two horns. The roar of a hellish creature could heard across the land.

"What th-?". Sombra words were cut off by the roar. He looked at Ziel, emitting green rays that started to strike the floor. The roar reminded Sombra of a demon calling for help. The howl was heard and a wolf completely enveloped in flames ran towards Ziel. It stopped at his side as the flames faded, and a white wolf, with green eyes appeared in front of Sombra, with armor on his face and his legs. A dragon** appeared far in the horizon, twp figures could be seen on the dragon’s neck. As it neared them, Sombra noticed that it barely had any skin, and what it did have was tattered.

"So your owner is coming, Lunos." Ziel said as he started to pet the wolf. It was bigger than any wolf Sombra had seen. If it stood on two legs, it would tower over Sombra.

Sombra backed off and grabbed a sword lying on the ground. "Ok this is getting stupid. First you call your puppy and now you call your own personal dragon! What the HELL are you?" Sombra said, raising his voice.

"HE is the Infectus." The wolf said, his voice heard within Sombra’s mind. It tried to bite Sombra, but another voice stopped him. "Stop. We aren’t here to eat, Lunos." The giant dragon was now above Sombra and the rest and a figure in completely black armor with gold trim and a recently shaved beard fell from it and landed in front of them.

The dragon landed, sending dust into the air as another figure dropped from it. This one had long white hair, red pants, and a red shirt. "So you want to include another one, Ziel?"

Sombra looked around at the group. "What the hell do you want?"

"We want you in the Infectus. I can see your soul, all that suffering, all that hate towards the ones that have betrayed you. We offer you a family as well as loyalty as long as you are loyal to us.” Ziel said.

Sombra grinned and looked at everyone. "Sure."
Part Four: Familiar Surroundings
There was a flash of light so bright that Nicodemus couldn’t see anything for a few seconds. When it faded, he was on the Fields of Gorgamil, the same field that he had fought countless battles as the Hellslayer Knight. The corpses of the thousands of dead demons that he had slain still remained, unchanged for a millennia. “Do you remember this place, Nicodemus? Our first battle took place here.” Serris’ voice echoed throughout the area.

“Hiding in the shadows as always, Serris. Come out and face me.” Nicodemus said as he summoned the Peace blade.

Serris’ laughter echoed as thunder could be heard in the distance. “Inata norte velio!” He cried. At those words, it started to rain blood, which began to revive the dead demons. “Now you must deal with an army of demons!” Serris said as the demons got up, they looked around. When they spotted Nicodemus, they charged at him, claws and fangs gleaming as blood ran down the demonic faces.

Nicodemus summoned the Mega Pain blade to his hand as well. “If that is the way you want it, fine.” He charged forward and started to slash at the demons, dismembering them. He kicked one in the head, crushing its skull as it flew backwards into the hordes of demons. Nic threw the swords into the wave of demons. As they spun through the horde, Nic jumped into the air as a balls of white and black electricity appeared in his hands. He then fired them at the group. They revolved around each other as they came closer to land. Just before they crashed into the ground, they collided, creating a large explosion that destroyed many of the demons. Nic landed and created a shockwave that knocked half of the remaining enemies to the ground. “Death’s Sorrow!” He cried, spike impaling the demons on the ground. He held his hands out to his side and the Peace blade and Mega Pain blade returned to his hands. Nic then thrust them into the ground and lightning started to strike him, the electricity passing through him and into his swords. Soon, the swords where glowing brightly, at which point, Nic released them, releasing a shockwave of energy that disintegrated the remaining demons.

Nic stood up straight as his swords vanished and the rain stopped. Serris appeared in front of him, a frown on his face. Nic smirked. “What’s the matter, Serris. Didn’t expect that I would survive so easily?”

Serris recovered from his surprise quickly, the grin returning to his face. “Actually, this means that our battle will be more fun than I anticipated!” He said as he vanished once more.

Nic’s face grew serious, his eyes a blood red “A coward like always.” He said under his breath.

Part Five: The Sea of Souls
Aden put a hand to his nose. "Ugh, it reeks down here... Like so many people have died, it's unbearable..." He heard something in the distance, like running water. Since the tunnels were so narrow, they had to walk in single file, Aden in the front, and Azriel in the back. Aden started walking forward, not waiting for either Seth or Azriel, small rat bones crunching under his feet.

Seth walked along behind Aden, his teeth gritted. "Why, of all places, did he send us here to this stink-hole?"

Azriel rolled her eyes. "It was probably the nearest safe place, Seth. Stop complaining and deal with it." An explosion from above ground shook the tunnel, the blast echoing along its length.

Aden brushed the dust from his face that had fallen when the explosion occurred. "Apparently he didn't send us very far away." He muttered and continued walking.

Seth laughed bitterly. "Gee, y'think?!"

The sound of water grew louder and the group could now see a sight glow at the end of the long tunnel.

Aden saw the glow and ran recklessly straight for it, leaving Seth and Azriel behind. Seth grabbed Azriel's hand and started running, trying to catch up. When they came to the end of the tunnel, Aden nearly ran into a large pond. Within the pond, small lights glowed and swam around, giving off a slight glow enough to illuminate the room. It was now a cavern, with stalactites hanging from the ceiling which seemed to glow with the same unnatural light. There was a thin path going around the pond in each direction, but it was barely wide enough to support a single person.

Aden took a deep breath. The air seemed clean... Far too clean for something that was right at the end of a series of smelly sewers. The place was also muggy and warm, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. The walls were moist to the touch, but looked dry upon examination. "This is too weird..." Aden said quietly as he started walking along the edge.

Seth shivered. He couldn't shake the feeling that some huge, indescribable force was watching them, waiting, plotting, preying on them like a meager meal.

Azriel gripped her sword tightly, the wrappings around the hilt cold and damp from excessive use. She knew something was coming. What was coming, they would have to wait and see

As Aden reached the center of the walk, there was a low rumble. The wall to his side started to change. It seemed as though a face was growing out of it. As it formed, it took the shape of Aden’s face. It opened its eyes, which glowed soft blue. Aden couldn't stop looking at those strange eyes. The eyes seemed to pierce Aden and look right through him like a sheet of glass, staring at his soul and not his body. He could feel small beads of sweat on his forehead, but he didn't reach to wipe them off. "What the hell is going on...?!" He muttered. It started to open its mouth, but no sound came from it, yet whispers could be heard all around the room, echoing off the walls.

Aden was rooted in place. He wanted to run, but couldn't. He wanted to scream, but what good would that do? All he could do was watch silently and wait for whatever this thing was going to do.

Seth and Azriel looked around frantically, trying to find the source of the whispers. Most of them sounded like gibberish, but one caught Seth's ear.

"Death is upon you."

As it opened its mouth wider, the room seemed to dim. The eyes turned blood red. “Your soul is mine.” It said as an invisible force pushed Aden into the water. The water, while somehow not frozen, was colder than the ice of the poles. It numbed Aden instantly, making him unable to move. He somehow managed to close his eyes and clench his jaw, waiting for his inevitable demise. For the first and probably last time in his life, he was terrified. Aden waited for what seemed forever for something to happen, but nothing did. He slowly opened his eyes. The water no longer felt cold. It felt warm, like a mother's gentle touch, drawing him in. With great effort, he turned over in the water, his back to the surface, to get a better look. What he saw both awed and terrified him. A bright orb, slightly larger than he was, glowing with an ethereal grayish blue light that was both beautiful and at the same time, strange and terrifying. He heard a whispering in his ears. “Come to me…”

Aden's eyes narrowed. He would not die so easily, not to something like this. "I refuse." He said defiantly in his head to the strange, whispery voice.

“Come to me….” It said again as the small orbs seemed to push him towards the light. “You will be one with me…”

He shook his head. "What have I done to deserve death?" He thought defiantly. The water seemed to grow colder, but not by much.

The voice didn’t respond, yet the small orbs pushed him closer still. Soon, they started to whisper to Aden. “Join us…” they seemed to chant the same thing over and over.

It was then that Aden realized what the smaller orbs were. They were souls. Wayward souls with no body to call home, no job to give them purpose. They were lost and sad. Aden shook his head again. I can't... He thought. I simply cannot.

Over the chants of the smaller souls, one sentence was heard clearly. “You cannot escape.” The voice of a young girl said. Small tendrils stretched from the large blue orb and reached towards Aden as the whispers grew louder.

Aden sighed and didn't struggle. There was no use anymore. I am resigned to my fate once again... He thought as the cold tendrils wrapped around his wrists and ankles, pulling him in.

Just then, a withered, but strong hand gripped Aden’s shoulder and pulled him from the water and set him on the cold stone floor. When Aden looked up, he saw a man in a black cloak. “It would be best for you to leave now.” He said, his voice raspy. The stranger raised a wrinkled hand and a stone bridge arose, the water streaming from it. "Leave, now. The Sea of Souls doesn't like to give up lives."

Aden nodded and ran across the bridge. He didn't need to be told twice to leave. Seth and Azriel, having witnessed the spirits trickery, both ran forward as well, keeping their eyes fixed on the path ahead. The stranger turned to the pond and spoke, his voice calming. “Now, Verosia, you know I must not allow you to steal good souls. Only those of criminals” He spoke loud enough that his words echoed through the cavern, but the group did not hear his words.

Aden shivered, shaking the remaining water off. "I never... NEVER want to go back there for as long as I live! I've already gone to the afterlife ONCE, thank you. I'm not gonna go a second time!"

Seth tried to push past Aden, prompting Aden to push him away. Seth pushed Aden hard and Aden fell backward into what had looked like a solid wall, but it opened up as he fell and he fell out into a grassy field. Seth stepped over him and took a deep breath. "Ah, fresh air at last."

Some soft footsteps were heard from behind the group as well as a voice. “It seems that someone is leading us to this spot. How did you get here?” The voice asked the small group.

Part Six: The Demonic Horsemen
“So may I know the Infectus?" Sombra asked, arrogance in his voice.

"I am Abel Delacross, the guy that looks like me is Kain Delacross, my brother, and this is Lunos my pet." Abel started to pet Lunos’ head.

"So, brothers.” Sombra suffered brief a flashback of when he had killed Cairnus. "And who are you, man of blue armor?"

"I am Ziel, The Corrupted Soul, the father of the Infectus." Ziel said.

"I am Sombra, a Fallen, a Demon, and now the rookie." Sombra said with a dry expression on his face. "So where are we going now?"

Ziel raised his hand. "As we are nothing, we have no set course." He said as a green orb formed in his hand.

At that moment, the group heard many cries as the villagers panicked. On the horizon, a large group of demons with bat-like wings and demonic swords lead by four demonic beings riding horses in a line. The one on the far right was holding a old looking spear, and his horse had long, curved goat horns*. The one on the far left was cloaked and wielding a large sword, his horse seemed to be undead**. The one on the center right was wearing heavy armor and holding a spear***. The one on the center left had golden armor and was holding a flaming sword****. He urged his demonic horse into a run and the other horsemen followed, the sound of the hooves striking the ground sounding like thunder.

Sombra turned around when he heard the cries of the villagers, and saw the army of demons*****. The dying people enraged him, and he cried a loud scream as two goat horns appeared in his forehead.

As the army of demons heard Sombra’s cry, they ran forward as a few flew into the air, their battle cries filling the air. Sombra spread his bat-like wings as he cried. He flew above the group and grabbed hold of one of the demons, slamming his horns into its skull, crushing it.

Abel was surrounded by four pillars of black mist, he grabbed one. "GOD KILLER, destroy both heaven and hell!" The pillars fused into one and a sword****** appeared as the pillar dissolved. He whispered some words and started to float. He flew towards the demons in the air. The sword he held then took the form of a scythe. Abel spin in the air, cutting demons into pieces.

Kain climbed to Sepulcrure again as the dragon waved his wings and flew into the air, the movement of his large wings knocking several demons away. "Hey Abel, can you give me some firepower?"

Ziel threw the green orb he had in his hand to Sepulcrure then thrust his sword into the ground, waves of green energy coming from it. Ziel ripped it from the ground and the sword emitted a beam that struck several demons, cutting through them.

Just then, the leader of the Demonic Horsemen attacked Ziel, thrusting his flaming sword into Ziel’s shoulder, then ripping it free again. The Horseman jumped from his horse and stood in front of Ziel. “I am Alamut, the leader of the Demonic Horsemen.” He said as he pointed his sword at Ziel.

"You mosquito, I feel your energy....AND I KNOW FROM WHERE YOU COME FROM." Ziel raised his voice as he jumped to Alamut. "Today you will know what pain is." Ziel grabbed both of Alamut arms and started to pull them.

As Ziel pulled, Alamut just laughed. “Yes, brother, you do know where I come from, but I am not going to feel the pain today!” He said and kicked Ziel in the chest, sending him flying back. He raised his sword. “Today, you die.” He said as he charged at Ziel, the flames of his sword flaring.

"You never learn." Ziel landed on his feet and punched the floor, making stone pillars appear in Alamut’s way.

Alamut flew forward, breaking through the pillars easily. “I have grown stronger since we last saw each other. I started to work for Him, and he gave me powers beyond my wildest dreams!” He cried as he swung his sword at Ziel, intending to decapitate him.

"Him? You are the dumbest man on Earth." Ziel put his hand besides his neck and caught the sword. "You will never understand the true power of darkness." Ziel held the sword slammed Alamut against his own horse.

Alamut grinned as his sword flared brighter. “I do not need the darkness. I have the power of the Hellfire demons.” He placed his hand on Ziel’s chest and an aura of fire formed around it, then blasted Ziel back. A void formed and the Demonic Horsemen entered it, the demon horde vanishing. Alamut turned to his brother before he left as well. “You cannot defeat him. No one can.” He said then entered the void as it closed. The bodies of the dead demons turned to dust and started to float around the Infectus. It started to cling to them, immobilizing them. Then, there was a flash of light and they were in a grassy field, empty except for a few warriors at the far end of the field.
Part Seven: Regrouping
Aden turned around and saw Nicodemus. Aden shook his head at his question. "I have no clue how we got here..."

Seth looked over for a moment and his eyes widened as he saw Sombra and several others. "Hey, look!" He said and pointed. Aden and Azriel both turned to look and Aden's jaw dropped.

Sombra turned around to look across the field and spotted a group of people in the distance. He clenched his teeth and his yellow eye turned red.

Nic noticed the new group and walked over. "So you are here as well, Sombra, as are your... friends." He said as he glanced at the other Demon Knights, including Kain and Abel.

Seth walked with Nic, then noticed Abel and Lunos. Then his eyes shifted to Kain. "Why is he here?" Seth said with disdain.

Abel didn’t say anything and just waited for Kain to talk. "I suppose he never told you." Kain said looking at Nicodemus.

Nic turned to Seth. “I fought Kain again, sometime after he left. I defeated him, almost killed him, but he changed, so I let him live. He is now a force of good.”

Seth nodded. "Alright. If Nic says it, I'll trust you. Besides, another fight would be a waste of my time right now."

Aden and Azriel were right behind Seth in an instant. "Well, shall we get going?" Azriel said impatiently.

Aden took a step forward. "Hold on. Nic, why did you vanish like that, and who was that stranger?"

Nic turned and looked across the field. “He was an old enemy. I used to fight him constantly on these very fields, but that was before I was reborn and became the Lord of Weapons. We fought hundreds of battles. Each time, he came back. This time, though, I will make sure he doesn’t.”

Aden nodded. "Alright, now what's his name?" He asked, raising and eye ridge.

Nic looked into Aden’s eyes. “It is best for you not to know any more than that. He tends to kill anyone I am associated with, especially those who know his name.

Aden sighed. "Alright, fine... Oh! Before I forget, we were fighting someone. A bounty hunter, by the name of Abacus. He had a brother named Zerus, too."

Aden shook his head. "No. Abacus just kept mentioning a ‘Him’."

"He said the same thing." Ziel said. He formed a green orb in his hand and pushed it into the ground, making a circle appear around the group.

“They all said the same thing…” Nic muttered under his breath. He then jerked his head up and looked at the others. “Go back to Driss. I need to get some information.”

Seth furrowed his brow. "But it's our fight t-..." He cut himself off and growled. "Ugh! Typical! Forget it, I don't care!" He said as he started walking away.

Nic called after them. "You won't find Driss here. This is a completely different universe. This is where I originated*."

Seth shook his head. "I don't care! I'm leaving one way or another."

Nic sighed and raised his hand. Shadows surrounded everyone but himself, and when they faded, the others were gone, sent back to Driss by Nicodemus’ magic.
“Oh, so you had some friends over, did you, Nicodemus? I thought you worked alone.” Serris said from directly behind Nic.

Nic spun around to face Serris. “What does it matter to you? You only seem interested in killing me.” He said as he summoned the Peace blade to his hand.

“Because, He wants those dead, too.” Serris said with a big grin on his face.

“Who is this ‘He’ you keep talking about?” Nic said as his eyes turned red and he started to advance on Serris.

Serris’ eyes glowed brightly as he grasped a sword that was on his back. “You will never have the chance to know.” He said as he pulled the sword out and pointed it at Nicodemus. He then charged, swinging the blade. Nic easily blocked it and kicked Serris in the chest, sending him sliding back. “Oh, my. You have grown stronger.” He said as he grinned again. “But it won’t matter. Your soul is mine!” Serris charged at Nic again, unleashing a barrage of attacks that Nic easily blocked. Serris then grabbed hold of the Peace blade and attempted to trust his sword into Nicodemus’ chest. As the blade touched Nic, he vanished and appeared behind Serris in a flash of light. Nic attacked violently, his blade almost invisible with blinding speed. The blade bit into Serris’ back, leaving large gashes in his back. Serris grit his teeth, as his dark red blood began to flow from the wound. In a short time, however, the gashes sealed, and Serris turned around. He then attacked, slashing at Nic with unnatural speed, aiming to harm Nic greatly. But when he jumped back to watch Nic fall he noticed that there were no wounds. “Hm… Far much stronger than I thought. Well then, I guess it is time to give you better challenge.” Serris raises his hand and pointed it at Nicodemus. “Time to go to hell!” He cried as Nic vanished and appeared in Hell, the demonic hordes everywhere staring at him hungrily.

A single being stood in up from a stone chair and pointed at Nic. “Destroy the Hellslayer Knight.” He said calmly and the hordes of demons started to run toward Nicodemus.

Nic’s eyes flashed black and some of the demons instead attacked the others, but were quickly killed. During the brief distraction, Nicodemus quickly became the Lord of Weapons again wielding the Lava Katana. His eyes flared brightly as he spun the katana around in his hand. “I guess I need to clean this place up a little before I return to Driss.  Come on!” He cried and charged forward. The katana’s blade started to glow white as he sliced through some of the demons. He was grabbed from behind, so he thrust the blade through himself and impaled the demon behind him, then pulled it out and the wound in his chest healed. He threw the blade into the air, the demons staring at it as it caught fire. The Lord summoned the Lava Hook Sword, the blade also white and on fire, and started to kill the stunned demons. As their comrades where killed, they stopped staring at the spinning blade and jumped at the Lord again, piling on top of him. Soon, they had covered him completely, but then the pile collapsed in on itself as the Lord appeared a few feet away from the pile. He caught the katana and charged at the group of demons. “Gravitational Discharge!” He yelled as he thrust the blades within the group. As the bonds of magic were released, the force of gravity from the blades crushed the pile, forcing it to the size of a grain of sand. The Lord then thrust the blades into the ground and it cracked under the same force of gravity, but then the force faded and returned to normal.

The being that had ordered the army of demons to attack started to walk toward the Lord, his features obscure in the shadows. “It seems you have defeated my army of hellspawn. You won’t defeat me, though, Hellslayer Knight.” He said as he entered the light, revealing himself. His blood red armor gleamed as a sword appeared in his hand.

“Is that so, Asaroth?” The Lord said in an arrogant tone. “Well, since I am the Hellslayer Knight, it is my job to kill you, King of Hell. Prepare for oblivion!” The Lord said as the Lava Hook sword vanished. He raised the katana and charged at Asaroth.

Asaroth jumped backwards, dodging the Lord’s attack. He then charged as well, his blade moving at a blinding speed. “Death is not for me, Hellslayer Knight.” He said glumly.

The Lord blocked the swinging blade with the katana-now normal-and kicked Asaroth’s legs out from under him. Asaroth fell, but rolled away and stood up quickly. He pointed his sword at the Lord, the sharp edge glistening in the light of Hell. He started to slowly circle the Lord, who carefully watched for any actions. Suddenly, Asaroth charged and thrust his sword into the Lord’s chest, the blade jutting through his back as well. Asaroth grinned as he heard what he thought was blood dripped from the Lord’s wound. The Lord’s eyes flashed and the blood started to corrode Asaroth’s blade.

The grin vanished from Asaroth’s face as he pulled the sword out, trying to prevent it from getting damaged any further, but at that moment, the Lava Katana’s blade glowed white and the Lord decapitated Asaroth. As his adversary fell to his knees, the head-which had fallen off-started to rot, and as soon as the body lay still upon the ground, it too started to rot. There was a thunderous explosion within the depths of Hell and the ground started to shake and crack. The Lord’s eyes flashed as he vanished in a burst of fire and appeared in Driss once more.

Part Eight: Hellish Destruction
“Oh, so you had some friends over, did you, Nicodemus? I thought you worked alone.” Serris said from directly behind Nic.

Nic spun around to face Serris. “What does it matter to you? You only seem interested in killing me.” He said as he summoned the Peace blade to his hand.

“Because, He wants those dead, too.” Serris said with a big grin on his face.

“Who is this ‘He’ you keep talking about?” Nic said as his eyes turned red and he started to advance on Serris.

Serris’ eyes glowed brightly as he grasped a sword that was on his back. “You will never have the chance to know.” He said as he pulled the sword* out and pointed it at Nicodemus.

His blood red armor gleamed as a sword** appeared in his hand.

“Is that so, Asaroth***?” The Lord said in an arrogant tone.

Part Nine: No Rest For The Weary
The group appeared in front of the pub, and since Seth was in mid-stride, he ran straight into the wall. "Goddammit..." He muttered, and went inside.

Aden and Azriel looked at each other, sighed, and walked into the pub after Seth.

Sombra grit his teeth and started poking his goat horns. "Damn, I need a drink."

Abel sighed. "Not much action today, but whatever." Godkiller vanished and he started to walk to the pub. Kain sighed. Damn, bad memories.

The pub was lit only by a lone torch in the corner, shedding enough light for the people to see their beers. In the far corner, a strange, cloaked man stared at the group, his features obscured by his black hood.

Seth sat down at the bar and showed the Lord's coin to the bartender. "One bottle of wine... Please."

The bartender looked at the coin for a second, then went and brought out a bottle of wine. “Here you go, kid.” He said in a gruff voice.

Aden sat next to Seth and took out a few coins. "Just a beer, please. Nothing too strong."

Azriel sat at an empty table and didn't order anything. She just sat silently

The bartender refused the coins as he set a glass mug with foaming beer in front of Aden. He then looked over at Azriel. “Do you want anything?” He asked timidly.

Azriel nodded. "Just some water, please." The bartender brought her some water.

Aden looked at the person staring at them and narrowed his eyes. "Excuse me, is there a problem?"

The stranger grinned, revealing unnaturally white teeth that seemed familiar.

Seth stumbled over to the stranger, slightly drunk. "Hey! If you got something to say... Say it now."

The stranger stood up and kicked Seth in the chest. He pulled the cloak off, revealing the red clothes and four wings. "I always get my bounty." He said as his sword appeared in his hand.

Aden took a swig of his beer. "Here's a math problem." He said calmly. "What does alcohol plus your eyes equal?" He threw his beer glass at Abacus' face, temporarily blinding him in his right eye. Seth grabbed Abacus’ neck and lifted him up, then slammed him down onto the ground, his sword flying from his hand

Abacus grabbed hold of Seth’s arm, then punched him in the gut multiple times, rapidly. He jumped up and kicked Seth into Aden, then picked up his sword. “Come on, let’s see the little lady do something.” He said as he faced Azriel.

Azriel flapped her wings and disappeared in a flash of light, then appeared behind Abacus. "You will pay for your arrogance." She said, and then fired a ball of searing light from the tip of her shield at Abacus.

Abacus spun around and sent the orb directly back at Azriel using his sword, as well as sending a wave of energy that destroys the tables, chairs, and glasses in the bar. “Will I really?” He asked in a cocky tone of voice.

Azriel absorbed the orb and held out her shield, blocking the wave of energy. "Yes you will. You cannot defeat an angel of such skill as I!"

Abacus grinned again. “A pathetic Altissimus cannot defeat me.” He said coolly, malice shining in his eyes.

Azriel growled. "You watch your tone, scum!" She yelled, and charged at Abacus.

Abacus jumped out of the way and pointed his sword at Azriel. “I know all your tricks, Azriel.” He said, the blade glowing.

Aden got up and grabbed Abacus' wing, pulling it hard. "You don't know all of mine." He said darkly.

Abacus spun the blade and quickly thrust it backwards into Aden’s chest. “I believe I do, High Angel 126.”

Aden coughed up blood and gritted his teeth. "I prefer to be called by name..." He hit Abacus' elbow from below, intending to break his arm.

Abacus yanked the sword from Aden’s chest, swinging the blade up and a wave of energy flew towards Azriel at high speed. He turned and struck Aden with the palm of his hand, sending him flying back. He then turned and placed the blade against Seth’s chest. “Your number is up, lizard boy.”

Seth, in his slightly drunk state, wasn't scared. Instead, he gently pushed the blade away and unsheathed his claws. "I didn't even realize I had a number." He said mockingly.

“Claws, huh? Fine. Hand to hand it is.” He said as he thrust the blade into the floor. “Let’s see how sharp those claws are.” He said, an arrogant grin on his face.

Seth nodded. "Yes. Let's." He waited for Abacus to make a move, any move, that would make him be open for attack.

Joy flashed in Abacus’ eyes. It will be fun to watch him die like so many others. He thought to himself, and his smile widened. He aimed a kick at Seth’s head.

Seth's slightly drunk state had altered his perception, making things seem slow. He moved calmly out of the way of the kick and aimed his own at Abacus' chest.

Abacus had been waiting just for that. He spun, the kick missing Seth’s head by centimeters and used the other leg to kick, striking Seth this time.

Seth flew backwards and did a backflip in the air, landing steadily on a table. "Well, that was slightly painful." He said, still calm. He jumped straight at Abacus, his claws aimed at Abacus' throat.

Abacus ducked under Seth, then struck him with his palm, sending him crashing into the ceiling. Seth stayed in the shadows of the rafters, making sure that Abacus couldn't see him before leaping out again. Abacus vanished before Seth landed on him, the reappeared a few feet back. "This is too easy." He said, an arrogant smile still on his face

Seth smiled and wagged his index finger at Abacus. "Is it now?" He said.

Azriel crept quietly up behind Abacus while Seth distracted him and raised her sword, ready to pierce his flesh.

Abacus flew forward as he heard the creak of a board behind him and kicked Seth through the wall of the pub, then turned and faced Azriel. “You still don’t remember, do you, Azriel?”

Azriel charged and slashed to the right but didn't hit Abacus. While she was seemingly off balance, she slashed hard to the left and put a big gash on Abacus' chest. Abacus summoned his sword to his hand, slashed quickly and knocked the sword from Azriel’s hands, causing it to strike the wall, the blade going deep within the wood. Abacus then set his sword down and took one of his gauntlets off, revealing a tattoo of a dragon*. “Remember this, Azriel? You were the only one to see this. You were the one who caught me, and caused my fall. Your death will be far sweeter than the others’.”

Azriel's eyes widened, but other than that her face was still calm. "You're Allan, aren't you? I remember you... You deserved your fall. You killed tens of hundreds of innocent angels. You're a murderer."

“Right you are, Azriel. I told you that one day, I would be your downfall as well. Today is the day the oldest of the Altissimus die, and of my greatest victory.” He held his hand tightly, the blade glowing a blood red as his bare hand touched the hilt and the dragon tattoo started to emit a glow as well, and seemed to move, as if it was trying to escape from his skin.

He raised the blade above his head, the edge seeming to grow sharper as Azriel watched it. He was about to bring it down on her head when a spear of light pierced his chest from behind. He looked down and dropped the blade as the blood started to wash over the spear, turning it scarlet. He looked up once more, and another spear struck him, this time, going through his heart. He placed his hand against the wounds and pulled it away, looking at the blood in disbelief as he fell to his knees. He looked up once more, staring into Azriel’s eyes, a deep sadness in them. He opened his mouth. “I… failed…” he said, then fell forward, dead.

Just outside the hole, a figure stood, holding a staff. He started to walk forward, but stumbled into the light. He dropped the staff and clutched at his chest, where a large gaping hole was. A black liquid poured from the hole, staining his armor and hand. He clutched the wall and looked up at Azriel. “It’s over…” he as he fell to his hands and knees. His body started to change. His armor vanished and was replaced by a white cloak, his dark skin brightened, and two golden wings sprouted from his back. He looked up again. “Goodbye.” He said as he faded, the forgotten staff still on the floor.

Aden's heart felt heavy. "It could've ended differently..." He muttered.

Seth, for all his hatred towards Abacus, felt sorry for him. He did what he was happy with, and had it torn away from him. In a way, Seth could relate...

Azriel sighed and took her sword from the wall several feet away. "It's finally over..." She said quietly.

Part Ten: The Challenge
The group appeared in front of the pub, and since Seth was in mid-stride, he ran straight into the wall. "Goddammit..." He muttered, and went inside.

Aden and Azriel looked at each other, sighed, and walked into the pub after Seth.

Sombra grit his teeth and started poking his goat horns. "Damn, I need a drink."

Abel sighed. "Not much action today, but whatever." Godkiller vanished and he started walking to the pub. Kain sighed. Damn, bad memories.

Ziel stood still, thinking. "I can feel them coming." Ziel muttered to himself.

“Hello, Ziel.” Someone said from behind the group.

Ziel turned around and faced Alamut. Beside him stood the other three Demonic Horsemen. "I knew you were coming."

"We, the Demonic Horsemen, challenge you, the Demon Knights, to battle.” Alamut said in a grim voice.

"And we accept." Ziel raised his hand and created a black orb, then thrust it into the ground, teleporting the Demonic Horsemen and Demon Knights, to a cave with small islands of stone surrounded by a lake of lava.

Alamut waved his hand to the cloaked Demonic Horseman and he walked forward. "I am Finsio, the Demonic Horseman of Death." He said as he raised his sword. The other Demonic Horsemen backed away to the edge of the small island that they were on.

Abel walked forward, summoning his sword in black mist."I am Abel Delacross, not much to say about me, though." He raised his sword and held it above his head. Ziel and the other Demon Knights backed away and the island where they were separated from the main body.

Finsio swung his blade at Abel’s chest, who blocked the attack with his sword and punched Finsio in the chest. Finsio slashed at Abel three times, then attempted to stab him. Abel received one slash at his arm but just millimeters deep. He blocked the others and grabbed Finsio hand when he prepared to stab. "No stabbing for now." Abel punched Finsio chest twice and kicked him in the leg. Finsio dropped to his knee and glared at Abel. “He shai tou.” He said as he stood up. His blade started to glow with a strange black aura.

"Oh so you know magic....well then, Fi." Flames covered Abel’s sword as he uttered that one word. He swung it in the air and pointed it at Finsio.

“Hai bo lea.” He said softly and the ground started to shake.

Abel stood completely still while pointing his sword at Finsio."I’m waiting for ya." He said arrogantly.

Finsio charged and knocked Abel’s sword to the side, then kicked him in the chest.

Abel backed off a little by the force of the kick."You asked for it piece of.... Re". Abel was engulfed by flames and now had the image of a demon. He smiled and charged to Finsio, kicked in the gut and grabbed him by his neck, punching him several times in his face and then throwing him to a side.

Finsio landed on his feet and faced Abel. “Hamino taisheo hantias!” He cried as he pointed his sword at Abel. Small, black orbs formed around him and flew to his adversary and swirled around him. As one touched his back, it exploded, knocking him forward into more, which exploded as well, until every orb had detonated.

Abel grunted as the orbs exploded around him. He threw his sword in a false act of rage and missed, throwing it into a lava pool behind Finsio."Li." Abel said, but nothing happened, instead, he  charged to Finsio.

Shadows swirled around Finsio and he vanished, appearing several feet behind Abel. “Fisero amai.” He said and punched the ground. Large stone barriers surrounded Abel, stopping him where he stood.

Abel did nothing, just moving his index finger, then he thought of Finsio and he teleported beside him."Hi ya". Abel said with a wide grin on his face. He punched Finsio several times, then pushed him, sending him a few feet back.

“Xei fin” Finsio said as he slashed the air. Black mist hung in the air where he slashed in the shape of an X. “Opio.” He said as he pointed to Abel. The mist flew to Abel and wrapped around him, becoming solid and binding him.

"You made a mistake." Abel said and then laughed."Do you think my sword is normal?" Godkiller burst from the lava and flew to Abel, cutting the bonds away.

Abel charged at Finsio and slashed, cutting his chest diagonally, then he raised the sword above his head and struck Finsio, killing him. As Finsio fell, the other Demonic Horsemen charged forward and raised their swords. Ziel  pointed his sword forward and the Demon Knights charged.

Irristo charged at Sombra. “Darkness shall engulf your spirit.” He said as he thrust his spear at Sombra.

Sombra smiled and punched Irristo in the face, then tried to sweep his legs out from under him.

Irristo jumped backwards and readied his spear again. He thrust it into the ground and a wave of purple fire radiated from the spear, heading straight for Sombra.

Sombra drew a magical circle in the air, which contained multiple runes. He flew into the air as the lightning flew from the circle at Irristo.

Irristo started to spin his spear directly in front of him, the spear absorbing the energy. As the attack ceased, Irristo pointed his spear at Sombra and the lightning flew from it.

Sombra flew to the left, evading the lightning, then he held his hand above his head, and a ball of lightning appeared. He threw it at Irristo, this time it moved faster than his other attack.

Irristo wasn’t fast enough to dodge this attack, and was struck. The blast knocked him back as the electricity sunk into his skin, and he dropped his spear, falling to the ground, unmoving, yet still alive.

Sombra waved his wings and took Irristo’s spear from the ground, then raised it above his head just to bring it down into Irristo chest, releasing one last surge of energy through the spear, killing Irristo.

~

Aristo pointed his spear at Kain. "Are you ready for death?"

Kain pulled a small knife from his pocket. "Are you?" He said calmly as he thought. Damn, I don’t have any power.

Aristo charged and swung the spear at Kain. “I am always ready.”

Kain side rolled and grabbed Aristo’s arm, then pulled and kicked Aristo in the face.

Aristo yanked his arm free and backhanded Kain, then kicked him to the ground. He raised his spear and thrust it towards Kain’s chest.

Kain rolled to the side, the blade nicking his arm. He then kicked Aristo’s legs out from under him. As Aristo fell, he threw the spear at Kain. Kain was slow and wasn’t able to dodge in time, so the spear sank into his right shoulder and he cried out in pain. Aristo quickly got up again and walked over to Kain, gripped the spear, and twisted it, tearing the wound open further.

Kain grunted and something whispered to him in his mind. “Just do what come in natural."

Aristo placed a foot on Kain’s chest. “It is time for you to die, Demon Knight.”

Kain fainted from the blood loss, and still the same voice whispered in his mind."Rise again champion."

Aristo pulled out the spear and held it up, the blade pointing down. He positioned it directly above Kain’s heart.

"No." Kain eyes started to shine red as they flew open, and his wounds healed. He kicked Aristo in the chest and sent him flying as a red aura appeared around him.

Aristo landed on his back, the ground under him cracking. He slowly stood up and gripped his spear tightly.

Kain walked slowly to Aristo, a sword materializing beside him. He threw the knife to a pool of lava and continued walking towards Aristo.

“Ikiou mesinnei filint.” Aristo whispered and a ring of fire appeared around Kain, the flames seeming to reach towards him.

Kain took the sword, which seemed to be made of stone, lava veins glowing brightly. Kain walked through the fire as if it was nothing."I am not human, I am close to being a god." He said, then he charged at Aristo and thrust the sword into his shoulder. Aristo grabbed Kain’s arm and squeezed, attempting to crush his wrist.

"You are prepared for death, are you?" Kain used his free arm to remove Aristo arm from his, then he stabbed the sword in Aristo’s other shoulder.

“I will make sure death takes you.” Aristo said through clenched teeth. He thrust his spear into Kain’s gut, not far, for he was weakening from losing so much blood.

"I have already been at the brink Death twice." Kain moved his face close to Aristo’s, the spear sinking farther into his abdomen."And you think I will let you kill me?" Kain whispered as he removed the spear from his gut, and stabbed Aristo in the face with his sword. Aristo dropped to the ground, the blood pouring from his wounds.

Alamut walked forward. “It is time to finish this, brother. You may have defeated the other Demonic Horsemen, but you won’t be able to defeat me.”

Ziel stepped forward and pointed his sword at Alamut."Come."

Alamut pulled out his sword, the flames shining brightly. He charged at Ziel, and slashed at him quickly.

Ziel jumped towards Alamut, the blade cutting through his armor, leaving two wounds in his chest. He struck Alamut in the face with his sword.

Alamut stepped back, the wound in his face bleeding slowly. He raised his hand. “Ehio thesita.” He said and a wave of fire rolled towards Ziel.

Ziel ran along the edge of the island, and rounded the wave of fire quickly. Alamut charged at Ziel, his sword flaring a bright orange, his eyes a deep red. Ziel charged at Alamut, then he clashed swords with Alamut, leaving him open for an attack. Alamut saw the opening and pushed Ziel away with his sword, then thrust the sword into Ziel, the blade sinking into his arm. Ziel used his free arm to grab Alamut by the neck and then throw. He then took the sword out of his arm, grunting as he did so, and threw it at Alamut.

The blade landed on the hard ground in front of Alamut. He bent down and picked it up, then pointed it at Ziel as he stood straight again. “Pathetic.” He said.

Ziel impaled his sword into the ground. "I can say the same about you." Ziel said as his sword started to produce green rays.

Alamut gripped the blade with both hands and turned his body to the side, while still looking at Ziel. His sword started to flare and pulse, changing from orange to a deep, fiery red.

Ziel held his sword with both hands and more green rays radiated from it, then he ripped it from the ground, launchings a green ray at Alamut while the sword still emitted the smaller rays.

Alamut slashed forward and his sword released a wave of fire that clashed with the ray. "Is this all your darkness can do?" As the two attacks clashed, it created an explosion, the light of with caused the fighters to shield their eyes. When Alamut lowered his hand he looked around, Ziel was nowhere to be seen. He raised his sword as he looked around.

Hands started to rise up from Alamut’s shadow. They took hold of his feet, then the rest of the hands pulled him to the ground.

Alamut struggled to free himself but was unable. A black orb came from his shadow and floated beside him, then struck the ground and became a spot of darkness. From that spot arose Ziel. "I tell you now what I have told. You do not understand the power of darkness."

Alamut continued to struggle, trying to break."NO! IT CANNOT BE!! HE PROMISED THAT I WOULD BE INVINCIBLE!"

“Tsk, tsk." Ziel walked to Alamut and put the tip of his sword to Alamut neck, then he raised it above his head.

Alamut stopped struggling. "Do it."

Ziel raised the blade, the slashed downwards, decapitating Alamut. The whole field grew quiet as the sword struck the stone under Alamut.

Alamut body was pulled into the shadow the hands. "We have won." Ziel said as he walked towards the rest of the Infectus. "Congratulations. The Demonic Horsemen have been slain." The Demon Knights looked at each other, and a portal opened beneath them, absorbing them, and they appeared in Driss in front of the pub again.
Part Eleven: The Reviver No Longer
The Lord appeared in Driss just as the Demon Knights arrived. He looked at the pub and the gaping hole in the wall. He slowly changed back to Nicodemus. “It seems that there have been some troubles here as well.” He said.

Aden sighed and walked out of the pub, along with Seth and Azriel. "Next time you decide to get drunk, Seth, try not to do it before we fight the evil bounty hunter."

Seth rolled his eyes. "Alright, now riddle me this." He said in a disdainful voice. "How was I supposed to know he was there in the first place?!"

Azriel shoved both of the arguing lizards aside and walked forward. "You two keep bickering like that, and your guts will become food for the plants."

Sombra walked towards Aden and Seth, still holding Irristo’s spear and the horns still on his forehead."You look to have problems guys."

Aden sighed. "It's been that way since this whole fiasco started..."

Seth took a deep breath. "It's because it's all so stressful, and there's no one else to take it out on..."

“And it isn’t over yet. I still have some unfinished business to attend to.” Nic said gravely.

Seth and Aden looked at each other. "Well, that's just brilliant..." Aden muttered.

Azriel hit him on the shoulder lightly. "Scaly, if you keep complaining, you already know what's going to happen."

Aden gulped. "Yes madam." He said quickly.

Abel stepped close to Aden and offered his burning hand to Aden."I think we don`t know each other, my name is Abel." After he spoke the flames faded and revealed his black armor.

Aden gripped Abel's hand firmly. "Seth told me a small bit about you. Not much, though."

Seth smiled. "I never said much because you never inquired further on the subject." A blade suddenly appeared at his neck.

Azriel smirked. "No. Arguing."

“That is enough.” Nic said calmly, but forcefully. “There are more important things to do.” He turned to Aden. “What exactly happened here?”

Aden looked at the hole in the wall. "A bounty hunter attacked us. His brother killed himself to destroy him... We all almost died."

Nic looked into the hole and saw only the body of Abacus. “Where is the brother’s body?” He asked.

Aden shook his head. “He vanished in a flash of light. All that is left is his staff.” He said in a low tone.

Kain took a step towards Aden, looking at his strange wings."So you’re an angel?"

Aden nodded. "Yes, I am an angel. Name's Aden. Who are you?"

“Someone that wants to destroy those that command you." Kain said icily.

Aden smiled a bit. "Another one of those who has a problem with God? I think I should tell you that fate is something that not even gods can control." His face became serious. "Fate is what you hate. Not God."

There was a sudden burst of echoing laughter from around the group. “It looks like I will have more souls today.” Serris said as he appeared in front of the group.

Seth rolled his eyes. "For the love of all that is holy, can this day just END already?!"

“Serris, you bastard. Leave them out of this.” Nic said, his eyes a blood red, fury showing in his face.

Aden growled at Serris. "Your scent carries destruction and dismay." He said darkly. "Your kind deserves death at birth."

Serris laughed again. “Actually, my mother did try to kill me, but she failed.” He said, grinning.

Aden gritted his teeth. "Allow me to finish her task for her then." He said, Annihilator appearing in his hand.

Seth and Azriel stepped to Nic's side. Seth smiled. "This is our fight too, I guess."

Azriel smirked. "And someone has to keep the two scalies in line."

Nic grit his teeth. “This is my fight. I won’t let you get involved.” He said through his clenched teeth.

Serris’ laughed. “You, a pathetic half-breed, could never defeat me.” He said to Aden, his voice growing deeper. A light blue-green aura appeared around him and his eyes started to glow green. He started to laugh demonically and large, torn wings burst through the back of his cloak and his skin darkened. He hunched over and started to grow larger, tearing out of his clothes and revealing his true form. His legs had become goat-like, large goat-like horns sprouted from his forehead, some swirling, glowing tattoos appeared on his chest and arms, and his light hair turned black. He now towered over the warriors*. “Now you will feel real pain.”

Aden cracked his neck and his scales changed to a mix white and black. "You do not know what you're dealing with."

Serris’ booming laughter echoed through the street. “I believe am dealing with a painted lizard.” He said, a large grin on his face, his demonic teeth gleaming.

Aden clenched his fists. "What did you say, you bastard?!" He said through gritted teeth.

“Oh, it looks like the reptile is angry.” Serris said, his grin widening. He stepped forward and grabbed hold of Aden, hoisting him into the air, then slamming him into the ground.

Aden got back up quickly, but yelled as he fell to his knees with a broken ankle. "I am an angel... And a demon... I am the half-breed to end all half-breeds..."

Seth charged at Serris with his claws extended, gleaming in the sunlight. "I may be weaker than Aden, but that doesn't mean I can't try!"

Serris kicked Seth in the chest, sending him flying backwards into a nearby building. “You are pathetic excuses for warriors.” He said as he laughed.

“Serris!” Nic called. Serris turned to see Nic and Azriel standing side by side. Nic now held the Peace blade and the Mega-Pain blade. “Let’s dance.”

Azriel stepped next to Nic and her shield opened up, revealing a sword with an ethereal blade that crackled with yellow sparks. She took it out and pointed it at Serris. "The Armageddon blade was made to destroy demons like you." She said coldly.

Nic charged forward and Azriel did the same. Nic Jumped and flipped over Serris, using the blades to cut his shoulders and head, then landing agilely behind Serris.

Azriel slid between Serris' legs, cutting his ankles as she slid past.

"Doesn't feel good, does it?!" Aden yelled, still clutching his own injured ankle.

A green, bioluminescent liquid started to ooze from Serris’ wounds, but he just laughed. “Those are just scratches!”

“Scratches? What about this one?" Sombra said as he held the spear above his head and it started to absorb darkness from Sombra’s body. He then threw the spear at Serris.

Serris turned and caught the spear, then absorbed the darkness contained within it. “You cannot harm me, pathetic demon.” He said. He thrust the spear back at Sombra and as I collided with the ground right in front of him, is exploded, knocking Sombra backwards.

Sombra spread his wings, stopping himself in mid-air."Hey pal, the spear is still darkness after all and I can collect it". Sombra clenched his fist and the ashes from the spear started to re-create the spear again.

Serris laughed again. “That spear is nothing.” He said as two glowing, light-blue glaives appeared in his hands. “My preferred weapons.” He said grinning.

Aden grabbed Annihilator's hilt hard and pulled, splitting it into Sunburst and Darkburst respectively. "These blades are itching to bite into your flesh, and soak in your blood..." He said, getting to his feet shakily.

Ziel held his sword tightly and ran towards Serris, slashing twice vertically and proceeded with a diagonal slash from waist to shoulder, then finished his attack by kicking Serris in the chest.

Serris took a step backwards, the new wounds bleeding slowly. He then laughed. “The Corrupt Soul is not corrupt enough.” He said mockingly. He then thrust his glaives into the ground and a shockwave that split the earth causing it to shake immensely.

Ziel jumped out of the range of the attack and was grabbed by Sombra. "Need a ride boss?" He asked.

Aden spread his wings, and Azriel did the same. Azriel grabbed Seth just as the ground crumbled underneath him. He sighed. "Next time you want to make a last second save, tell me first!"

“Dammit." Kain and Abel said at same time as they both jumped to the roof of a nearby building.

Nic threw his swords into the ground beside him and raised his hands slightly, causing a tremor that offset Serris’, stopping the ground from collapsing. “You’ve grown predictable. Have you lost your touch?” Nic said mockingly.

“Not quite.” Serris said, grinning. He pulled his weapons from the ground and a shockwave of energy erupted from them, causing the ground underneath to explode.

As the wave of explosive energy flew towards Nic, he vanished and reappeared behind Serris. “This is our fight. I won’t let anyone else get harmed.” Nic said as a dome of energy surrounded Serris and Nic and expanded the length of the street, blocking the others from getting in.

Seth clenched his fists. "That is the second time I have been cheated out of a good battle..."

Aden put a hand on Seth's shoulder. "He would be a good match for you. But Nic won't allow it. Let it go."

Seth sighed and unclenched his hands... "Nic..." He said quietly. "Kick his ass for me."

As the dome covered the two, Nic summoned his swords to his hand. “Let’s end this, Serris. You and me. Alone.”

Serris grinned. “Your death will be swift without your little friends.” He said, confidence in his voice. Nic smirked and charged, the blades flashing in the dim light. He swung the blades, aiming for Serris’ chest, but the attacks were blocked. Serris smiled. “Not so tough now, are you?” He said.

Nic’s weapons vanished and he pummeled Serris with multiple punches and kicks, causing him to stumble back at the ferocity. “They’re just swords. The real trial is of skill.” Nic said with a look of dead seriousness on his face.

Serris grinned. “It is about power, and who can gain it, hold onto it, and control it.”

“Obviously, that does not include you.” Nic said mockingly. He charged forwards and unleashed a swift kick to Serris’ chest, then he punched him several times with enough force to shatter diamonds.

Serris stumbled back again. “Your strength is astounding. Your soul will make me the most powerful being in the universe.” He said as he advanced on Nic.

Nic’s eyes flashed white. “Hellfire storm!” He said and the earth cracked beneath Serris’ feet. Between these cracks arose magma, which rose at a high speed. As it reached the top of the dome, it started to fall again, turning to stone as it did so. The now stone sank into Serris’ skin, wounding him further. However, the attack seemed to be useless.

Serris laughed. “Pathetic magic. I will show you something that all shall tremble before!” He said as his eyes glowed brighter. A strange light surrounded Nic and small spears of light pierced his body. After a few seconds, most of his body had been pierced and he was bleeding profusely. He fell to the ground, seemingly dead, as the energy barrier faded. Serris grinned. “The universe will tremble now.” He said as he turned to the other warriors.

Kain saw the bleeding corpse of Nicodemus. "Something makes me doubt." He muttered to himself. Abel, Sombra, and Ziel remained calm.

Azriel gasped at the sight of Nic's dead body. Aden and Seth merely smiled, however. Seth stepped forward. "Serris, look behind you."

Serris turned around quickly to see Nicodemus standing up, his clothes torn and bloody, his eyes completely red. “Serris, your time has ended.” Nic said, his voice low, but power seemed to emanate from every syllable. He flew to Serris at lightning speed and punched him in the gut, sending him flying back. Nic then transported behind Serris and delivered a strong kick to his back, knocking him forward again. Again, he transported and appeared in front of Serris, his weapons at the ready. He slashed at Serris, opening a hundred fresh wounds. Nic then jumped back as fire consumed him, changing him to the Lord of Weapons. He was holding both the lava blades. The Lord charged forward and unleashed a barrage of slashes to Serris’ body, his blood now pouring from his the wounds quickly. The Lord ended by thrusting both blades into Serris’ heart, the blades sinking into his chest all the way to the hilts. The attack had stunned Serris greatly, yet it had been mere seconds since he had turned to face Nicodemus.

As he fell to the ground, he reverted back to his human form. “I will return…” He said in a low whisper.

The Lord grabbed Serris by the neck and lifted him into the air as he reverted to Jak the Reaper. “Not this time.” He said, his voice low, yet colder than death.

For the first time in his life, Serris felt fear. His eyes widened “No… No! NOO!!” He cried as he struggle feebly as. Jak’s hand started to glow, sucking the life from Serris’ body.

As Serris stopped struggling and the life drained completely from his eyes, his body turned to dust and blew away in the wind. “You are the Reviver no longer.” Jak said as he lowered his hand.

Seth laughed. "He can't hear me now, but I would like Serris to know, he was an asshole through and through."

Azriel stood stunned. Aden laughed and put a hand on her shoulder. "Nic has done things like that before. It's nothing special."

Sombra landed and let go of Ziel on the ground and walked towards Jak. "Nice. I can’t believe that I survived against you." Sombra tried to say something nice, but being a demon with a pair of goat horns on his forehead didn’t really help him.

Kain and Abel jumped from the house and walked towards him, both smiling.

Jak reverted back to Nicodemus, his eyes a deep red. “My oldest enemy, now dead.” He bowed his head slightly to show respect for Serris, but not much.

Seth walked next to Nic. "Well, I guess that's done and over with."

Aden smiled. "It is done. Finally, we can relax a bit."

Azriel stepped forward. "Hold on. We still have one question no one has asked yet. Who sent Abacus, and who WAS Serris?"

Nic looked at the sky. “Serris was my mortal enemy. Not as the Lord of Weapons, but as the Hellslayer Knight, before my rebirth, and before I was a god. He was known as Serris the Reviver because every time he died, he would come back, stronger than before. Before, I didn’t have the power to truly kill him, but now, I had the power, and he will stay dead…” He said, his eyes changing to a deep blue. “As for who sent Abacus, I believe I know.”

Seth and Aden looked at each other. "You mean we STILL aren't done?" Aden said, appalled.

Nic looked at them, his eyes blood red again. “No, and this will be the most dangerous adversary we have ever faced.”

Kain laughed a bit and then he looked at Nicodemus calmly. "I don`t know, but here it never appears that things end so easily."

“Have any of you heard the legend of the Black Soul?” Nic asked in a low voice.

Seth and Aden both shook their heads, but Azriel nodded. "I know of the legend. The man who was born with a dark soul, the minute he breathed, he was evil."

Nic looked at Azriel. “That is only part of it. It was said he was the first demon, before Lucifer himself. He was the father of evil and the creator of death.  It was said that he would roam the planet looking for lost souls, turning them into demons of immense power. Eventually, he was sealed away in this very universe, and the key to his release was hidden with the souls of certain people. These people would die of natural events and the keys would be passed to a new soul. Only when someone is killed unnaturally, that key is released.”

Aden gulped. "And we are those keys?" He said, slightly frightened.

“Most likely, yes. He has probably been searching for the keys for millennia, but has just found them. That is why we have been hunted and attacked.” Nic said as he looked at Aden.

Sombra closed his eyes and leaned on the wall of the pub, his arms crossed with his foot against the wall. "So when and where are we going?" Sombra asked with a slightly annoyed voice.

“To the Gates of Sin.” Nic said darkly.

Aden and Azriel's eyes widened. "You're insane." Aden said quietly. "No one, not even I would survive there."

Seth had never seen Aden and Azriel freaked out. It made him nervous.

“Good place for battle." Ziel said holding his sword.

Sombra laughed a bit. "Good name."

“You know of the gate, but what is unknown is that he is sealed away behind those gates, unable to leave. Why do you think no one has ever come back from there alive?” Nic said, his red eyes darkening to almost black.

Aden nodded. "This is something that is far out of my league..." He said softly. "And with my broken ankle, I would only slow you guys down."

Ziel still with his cold glare looked at Nicodemus."Of course i know why, but why back away from a battle?” The rest of the demon knights said in unison."That’s true."

Sombra walked towards Aden, and looked at Nicodemus."Do you have the dagger?"

“Yes, I have it.” Nic said as he pulled out the Cultist’s Dagger and held it out to Aden.

Aden took the dagger and pricked his ankle, gasping as the broken bones snapped back into place instantly. "I will probably never get used to that thing..." He said under his breath.

Nic took the dagger back and put it away. “Now that you are ready, we will go now for the Gates of Sin.” He said.

“First where are they?" Abel asked a little confused.

“They are hidden in a maze of tunnels below our feet. Few can ever get down there, but if they do, they must first pass the Sea of Souls.” Nic said.

Aden's eyes widened. "Um, we already did that, Nic."

Seth remembered it well. "Aden was almost killed there. Then an old guy helped us out, and we left, then we met up with you."

“Ah, so you have met Arto already. He is the guardian of the Sea of Souls, and the gatekeeper of the Gates of Sin.” Nic replied.

"He helped us, and then told us to leave." Azriel said, obviously holding the man in contempt.

“So are we going there, or are we going till he sends another of his minions?" Sombra asked impatiently.

Nic turned and waved his hand and a void appeared in front of him. “This will take us to the tunnels beneath the city.”

Aden stepped forward. "Azriel, Seth and I know them like the back of our hands now. We can lead." Nic stepped aside and gestured at the portal. Aden smirked and walked through, followed by Azriel and Seth. After walking through, Seth stuck his hand back out, giving Nic and the others the thumbs up. Nic gestured to the Demon Knights to follow and then stepped into the portal.

The Demon Knights entered the portal, Abel was first and he entered first then Kain and the rest followed.
Part Twelve: Arto
Aden turned to the group and flashed a smile. "Don't mind the smell. You get used to it."

Seth pushed Aden slightly. "Yeah yeah yeah, just go."

Kain didn’t mind the smell. It reminded him of the Hell Arena. "Ah memories are quite welcome." He said, then took a deep breath.

Aden laughed a bit. "You like the smell? Well, that's one person who won't be gagging today." He said, walking forward, the scales on his feet protecting him from the jagged, broken bones on the floor.

“As we pass beyond the Sea of Souls, the stench of death will be more prominent.” Nic said as he walked.

Seth coughed. "Lovely. Just what I needed, a smell to burn my lungs until my head melts..."

Azriel pushed him. "Continue onwards and quit complaining."

Abel continued behinds Nicodemus and grunted. "Seth, you have started to complain more.”

Seth sighed. "I'm tired. I'm hungry. I want this all to end. I'm not as strong as all of you. I have my limits. If you were me, you’d be complaining too."

Abel continued walking, the smell of death growing stronger. "I won’t argue with you with a god between us."

“Good choice.” Nic said casually.

Seth looked over his shoulder back at Nic. "You know what I'm talking about, right? I bet you weren't always a god. You had to have started somewhere, right?"

Azriel pushed him again. "Keep walking, scaly." She stepped on his foot lightly. "Or risk a broken toe."

“Yes. I have been a mortal human twice. The first as the Hellslayer Knight. The second time as the Hellslayer Knight reborn.” Nic said in a low tone.

Seth smiled slightly. "Then you know how I feel right now."

“I felt that way a few times when I was the Hellslayer Knight. Dealing with Serris was normally annoying.” Nic said with a half smile on his face.

Seth smiled and then a small pop filled the cavern, followed by him grunting and falling to his knees.

Azriel smirked. "You're lucky I just popped your toe out of place, scaly." She said. "You can fix it, right?" She added in a mocking tone.

Nic sighed. “Azriel, stop. You don’t have to hurt him for being curious.”

Azriel rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I know. Sorry. He's just annoying."

Seth popped his toe back into place and walked forward, pushing Aden along to keep a good distance between him and Azriel.

"Guys can you leave out your jibber jabber and start going faster PLEASE?" Sombra asked slightly annoyed as he pushed Kain. As everyone stopped Sombra pushed Kain harder, so hard he fell, and then fell on Abel, who was going to fall on Nic.

Nic turned around and caught Abel and stopped him from falling on top of him. “It would be wise to be careful.” He said.

Seth looked at Aden. "It would've been wiser if Aden hadn't stopped in his tracks!"

Azriel pulled Seth's tail, prompting a yelp from him and pulling him towards her, then she turned him around. "What did I tell you about complaining?" She said in a low tone, and then slapped Seth hard. "Next time I won't be so nice." She turned Seth back around and then pushed him gently so that he would keep moving.

Ziel laughed. I wonder, what she will do next time. He thought to himself.

A dim glow illuminated the tunnel, and Aden walked faster until he once again found himself in the Sea of Souls cavern. He took a deep breath. "I do not have fond memories of this place..." He muttered. He moved over a bit, allowing the others to file through.

Seth stood next to Aden, looking again at the cavern. "This place still gives me the creeps..." He said.

Azriel nodded. "For once, you and I agree."

Nic walked to the edge of the Sea of Souls and looked down. The light blue glow illuminated his face, making it seem pale. Deep within, the wandering souls called to him, their voices only heard with the mind. “Arto, reveal yourself.” Nic said as he looked up again.

“Hello, warriors of peace.” A voice said from behind the group.

Aden looked at the man. "Greetings to you as well. You are the one who saved me, correct?"

Seth smiled at Arto. "I gotta say, if you hadn't have saved Aden, we'd all be pretty much dead by now."

Azriel nodded. "For the second time in forever, I agree with the scaly one."

"Greeting." Said the Delacross brothers.

Arto walked forward and stopped directly in front of Nic. “Why have you called me?” He said, his voice cold and demanding.

Seth stepped forward. "Allow me to explain. We're here because of a villain known as the Black Soul. Do you know of him?"

Arto swiftly turned and looked at Seth. “Do not pursue him. Death follows him as it has since his birth.”

Aden looked at the man with a determined look on his face. "We are here to destroy him, once and for all."

Arto turned his cold gaze upon Aden. “He will kill you before you have a chance.” He said, his voice sending chills down Aden’s back.

Azriel stepped forward. "The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Anything to destroy this evil, even if it costs my life."

Arto turned and stared into Azriel’s eyes, seeming to look right through her, into her very soul. “It would be wasted.” He said in a low voice.

Azriel smirked. "An angel's efforts are never wasted."

Arto stared menacingly at Azriel. “All lives are was-“

“Nothing you say will change our minds.” Nic said, cutting Arto off. “Show us the path and be on your way.”

Arto stepped closer to Nic, fury in his eyes. “If you go in there, you will die.” He said in a low voice.

Nic stepped forward as well, changing to the Lord of Weapons. “We will not die.” He said, his eyes flaring brightly.

Arto’s eyes widened momentarily as he recognized the Lord, but he recovered quickly. “You may not die, but you won’t be able to kill him. If you wish to continue, then I will reveal the path to you, but I warn you now, it is a waste of time.” He said, then raised his hand and the stone bridge arose from the waters again.

Aden, Azriel and Seth walked past Arto and across the bridge. "No effort, no matter how small, is wasted." Seth said without looking back as they crossed.

The Demon Knights crossed the bridge, Ziel going first and Sombra in the end."How the hell did I end up here?" Sombra muttered to himself.

Arto grit his teeth. “When used against the Black Soul, everything is useless.” He muttered to himself.

The Lord walked past Arto, becoming Nicodemus again, but halfway across the bridge, he stopped and turned around to look at Arto. “We will meet again.” He said, then continued forward.
Part Thirteen: The Black Soul
Aden and the others stopped walking as they were met by a rather large and intimidating door*, adorned with a pentagram and two large draconic figures. Aden shivered. "This is the gate to hell..." He muttered. "There's no turning back, I suppose..." He muttered, looking at Nic.

Nic looked up at the gates. “No. It is time to end this.” He said, his eyes shifting to red.

Seth stepped up next to the gates and put a hand to them, and then drew it back instantly. "It's so cold... I can't even touch it."

Sombra spread his wings and stretched his arms. This was the closest he had ever been to a hellish ambient, and him being a demon made him feel relaxed. "Time to finish this." He said as he lowered his arms and the gem on his neck shone.

Azriel cracked her knuckles. "This is where it all leads to. This is where we finish things..."

Nic walked up to the gates and placed a hand on them, causing them to swing inward, a flash of brilliant light lighting up the darkness. The light faded and the place they were in seemed strange and surreal. A tall, dark cathedral with two towers loomed in the near distance, surrounded by an endless sea. In this sea drifted an uncountable number of dead bodies. The bodies of those who had become soulless. The only way to the cathedral was a short bridge, bodies impaled on its many spikes. It seemed to be raining, but in reality, it was water from the sea condensing and falling back down. But it seemed to have a strange ethereal quality to it, as if merely feeling the rain on your skin filled you with sadness. This rain was not ordinary rain. It was the tears of the lonely souls.

Aden took a deep breath and shivered, his breath showing up in the cold cavern, the rain pelting him hard. "This rain... It doesn't seem real... It seems so sad..." He said softly. "We need to keep moving."

Seth nodded. "I don't like this place. It's strange." He said, rubbing his hands together to keep warm.

Azriel shivered. "This place, like Seth said, is uncomfortable. The souls are crying, longing to be living once more. We should go, before they notice us."

Sombra walked forward as the drops fell on him, making him feel the sadness of those souls and their suffering, but most of all, it made him remember what he has done.

Abel continued, the place reminded him about the cave and forest where he made his first kills, a genocide of wolves.

Kain walked onto the bridge, his shoulder length white hair moving in the wind, the drops of water made him remembers all the pain he had caused, and the reason why he joined the Infectus.

Ziel walked behind everyone. He could see their emotions, surging in vibrant color, he could feel their auras pushing against him. They all have a hard past, but they all will overcome it.... Ziel thought.

Nic walked ahead of the others, his footsteps echoing. He could feel the sadness of the lost souls and a feeling of deep longing for old friends who grew old and died washed over him, bringing back memories of each one.

Aden remembered far back, when he had left heaven. He was sad then, leaving his friends behind for safety. He regretting leaving them...

Seth remembered his friends, his lover... All dead now. He found it hard to keep walking, but held his pace.

Azriel looked at the ground as she walked, remembering the other Altissimus that had been so brutally murdered.

As the group reached the door, Nic stopped and turned around. “Are you all ready?” He asked, his eyes a dark blue. Aden, Seth, and Azriel all nodded at the same time, remaining silent. The Infectus nodded as well, then looked at the door.

Nic turned around and pushed the doors open, revealing the room beyond. The room inside was dark, only a few torches and candles lighting it. At the other end of the room was an enormous pipe organ, and there was little else in the room. The floors were made of red and black alternating marble, and the ceiling was so high in the darkness it could not be seen.

Sombra whistled when he saw the marble below his feet and the seemly unending darkness above, the sound echoing. "Wow, this would be the perfect place for a sect or cult."

Seth nodded. "Yes, but the cult seems to have left the building, if you know what I mean."

“So,” a voice said from the shadows, “you have come.” Aden summoned his sword in a heartbeat, as did Azriel. Seth unsheathed his claws and got into a crouching position, baring his fangs. Laughter echoed across the walls. “How pitiful.” The voice said.

Abel looked around quickly moving his head side to side, searching for the source of the voice. He summoned Godkiller and arose from the floor, passing through it like mist. It emanated black smoke until Abel placed his hand on the sword hilt.

A man walked out of the shadows. He had shoulder length white hair and a black cloak with a hood pulled over his head**. “It is so good of you to join me in this desolate place.” He said as he smiled devilishly.

"I’m not here to keep you entertained, you know?" Sombra said standing in a defiant pose.

Seth cracked his neck. "What he said, with interest." He said, stepping forward.

The man laughed, the sound echoing around the large room. “Like that can ever happen.”

Aden took a deep breath and changed to his hybrid form. "We'll MAKE it happen." He said forcefully.

“So naïve. You just don’t realize just who I am, do you?” The man asked.

Azriel scoffed. "Actually, we know more than you think."

The man grinned. “You know of me as the Black Soul. What you don’t know is who I am. I am Lucas, the brother of Lucifer.”

Seth and Aden both gasped and gritted their teeth, while Azriel remained completely calm, steadily drawing her sword. "This is where that brotherhood will be broken." Azriel said calmly.

“That bond was broken at birth.” Lucas said, still grinning.

Nic walked towards Lucas, the Mega-Pain blade and the Peace blade appearing in his hands. “It doesn’t matter. You still won’t survive this encounter.”

Seth clenched his fists hard. "I'm gonna smack that grin right off your ugly mug, then I'm gonna knock your teeth out. Then after that, I'm gonna break your nose." He cracked his knuckles. "Sound good to you? Not that I care."

"Seth, don`t say it before doing it." Abel summoned Godkiller to his hands and pointed it at Lucas. "I won`t tell you what I’m going to do."

Lucas suddenly vanished and appeared behind Abel. “If I ever gave you a CHANCE!” He said as he punched Abel in the back, sending him flying forward. Abel struck the wall and became black mist, with particles of gold floating inside it. Lucas then transported again, kicking Seth into the air. He transported again and grabbed Seth, then spun in mid air, vanishing, taking Seth with him. When he appeared once more, it was behind the group. Lucas threw Seth at the wall, then raised his hand as he turned back to the group. “Time to die.” He said as he blasted a bolt of lightning at Azriel.

Azriel gasped and held her shield out. Her metal shield. She silently cursed herself for that as the bolt came closer to her

Aden jumped in front of the blast, taking it head on. His burned body twitched as he lost motor control and fell to the ground.

Azriel knelt next to Aden, who looked up at her. "Why did you save me like that?" She said. "After all I've done to you..."

Aden smiled. "Cuz you're my friend. That's why."

Abel reformed, the black mist re-made Abel, the gold particles remade his armor mixed with the remains of the black mist, recreating his black and red armor."I’m back, darling."

Seth walked up to the group, clutching his chest. “That all you got?” He asked Lucas, wiping some blood from his mouth.

“Pathetic. Even at the brink of death, you hold onto frivolous things.” Lucas said.

“What we believe isn’t frivolous.” Nic said as his swords vanished. “I believe it is time to strip you of power.” He said as he held out a hand. Suddenly, a shining hilt appeared in his hand and a strange aura surrounded the others. The auras faded from the group as a few small spheres of bluish-white light appeared from their bodies, one sphere per person. They began to slowly move towards the hilt of their own accord, the light fading as they revealed their true form as pieces of a sword. They seemed to click together like a jigsaw puzzle, one by one, as they met with each other at the hilt. When the blade was completed, a blue-white aura appeared around Nicodemus, empowering him.

“Fools. Only God can use Shard against me.” Lucas said with a grin. ‘And by releasing the blade from your bodies, you have also released the keys, freeing me in the process.”

Nic smiled slightly as he changed into the Lord of Weapons. “You forget, I am the Lord of Weapons. I can use any weapon to the best of its ability.” He charged forward and thrust the sword into Lucas’ chest.

As the blade sunk into Lucas, it started to glow a bright blue, and Lucas paled considerably as he felt the power being drained from his body. “How…?” He said, shocked.

Seth smiled. "Doesn't feel so good when you're on the receiving end, does it?" He said, walking up to Lucas while Azriel stayed at Aden's side.

Nic ripped the sword from Lucas’ body, watching as the wound healed. The sword brighter than before. “Too bad this cannot kill you, but now that you are powerless, it won’t be so hard finding something that can.”

Seth looked at Nic. "Can I do something that Aden would do?" He asked sincerely.

Nic gestured at Lucas. “Do as you wish.” He said to Seth.

Seth cracked his knuckles and planted his fist in the middle of Lucas' face, then walked away calmly.

“What was it like to watch her die, her body destroyed, burned with the rest of the village?” Lucas called after Seth.

Seth turned halfway around. "I never saw her burn." He said softly.

Lucas smiled cruelly. “She called out to you, you know. Her screams of agony never reached your ears.”

Seth shook his head. "That's not true. You don't know that."

Seth shook his head. "That's not true. You don't know that."

“You think that your village was burned for no reason? I sent my demons to do so, and I watched using my magic. I watched her burn. I watched her cry out for you as she slowly died.” Lucas said, his cruel smile widening.

Seth was next to Lucas in an instant and kicked him in the face, knocking him into the wall. Seth grabbed him by the neck and held him there, punching him in the face repeatedly with the other hand.

As Seth continued his assault, Lucas started to laugh, ignoring the blood that was now trickling down his face. “I may have lost my power, but I still have my strength!” He said and kicked Seth.

Seth flew into the nearby wall, a loud crack resonating from his body. He screamed as he fell in a heap to the ground with a broken tail.

Lucas started to walk towards Seth. “I think it is time you joined her.” He said.

At that moment, there was a bright flash of light. “You have been marked for death, Lucas.” Zerus said as he appeared in the doorway to the large chamber. He was wearing a long, billowing white cloak and two golden wings sprouting from his back.

Aden, still burned badly, using as much strength as he could muster, got up, but fell back down to one knee. "I thought you were dead..." He muttered to Zerus.

“God gave me a second chance because I killed my own brother and myself for others.” Zerus said and walked forward. “I am now the Altissimus Zerus.”

"One more taking the chair." Sombra said, amused, but actually feeling disgusted.

Seth and Azriel both turned to look at Zerus. Seth smiled evilly at Lucas. "You know those things you said? You're about to regret all of them."

Lucas looked at Zerus. “A pathetic angel like you can’t kill me. Not even God could do that.” He said grinning evilly.

Zerus also smiled evilly. “We don’t need the power to kill you. We’ll leave that to Verosia.”

Lucas’ eyes widened as he heard the name. “And what are you going to do? Take me to her?” He said, trying to sound confident, but failing.

Seth looked around, confused. "Oh come on, I know I'm not the only one who's going to ask. Who's Verosia?"

Nic looked at Seth. “Ask Aden. He saw her in a way that few have ever lived afterwards.”

Aden's breath caught. "The Goddess of the Sea of Souls?"

“The very one.” Nic said, his eyes dark.

Zerus stepped up to Lucas. “Not me. That job, I leave to the group of warriors behind you.” He said, smiling ruefully.

Azriel smiled darkly. "It was my job to destroy evil beings like you. It would be my duty to destroy you."

“I won’t stay powerless forever!” Lucas said, making a run for the doorway, running frantically. “You will all see me again, but next time, you will all die!”

Nic vanished and appeared in the doorway, blocking Lucas’ path. “Oh look. There you are again.” He said jokingly, a sly smile on his face.

Azriel, Seth, and Aden all pointed their weapons towards Lucas' back. "It's over." They all said in unison.

Lucas stopped suddenly, looking around, now hopelessly frightened. How could it be? I’ve lived so long just to be killed by a few kids? How could it have come to this?? He thought to himself.

The Demon Knights walked and surrounded Lucas to the left and right. Sombra jerked his head to the left. "Now, is time for us to get creative."

Lucas stopped and looked at the group surrounding him. “You will all regret this. I may not be the cause of your regret, but I assure you, you will regret this day.” He said, conviction in his voice.

Seth made a talking gesture with his hand. "Blah blah blah. We've faced tough odds in the past and come out on top. Why should you or anyone after you be so special?"

Lucas was about to respond when Nic cut him off. “It’s time to die, Lucas.” He said, the grabbed Lucas and started the long walk across the bridge.

The souls depressed the group, but affected Lucas more because his death loomed in front of him. There was maybe one thing he could do to escape, but he had to be quick. As they reached the Gates of Sin, he somehow got out of Nic’s grip and grabbed hold of the sword he held, pulling it from Nic’s hand, and his power surged through his body once more. He smiled deviously as he stood at the gates. “It looks like you will fail in killing me after all.”

Seth, Aden, and Azriel were all ready for battle at a moment's notice. They had expected a dirty last trick like this.

"The hell, you are annoying." Sombra said as he pointed Irristo’s spear at Lucas.

Nic walked forward slightly, eyes a deep red. “You have your powers again, so go on. Try to escape.”

Lucas was taken aback from this comment, but recovered quickly. “Giving up so easily? Pathetic.”

Zerus appeared behind Lucas. “Not quite.” He said grabbing Lucas from behind and throwing him to the sea of souls. As he crashed into the water, the small spirits started to swirl around him. They disarmed him, and he became powerless again. He started to panic, thrashing around in the water, sure of his death now. No! It wasn’t supposed to end this way! He thought to himself.

“Ah, a powerful soul for the taking.” A small voice whispered in his head. “Come to me, Black Soul, and remain with me forever.”

No… I can’t. I just can’t! Lucas thought, yet found himself wanting to be with the voice, and he unwillingly swam towards the bottom where Verosia resided, aided by the smaller souls.

“Yes, that’s it. Come to me, Lucas.” It said, reaching out it’s glowing tendrils and wrapping them around Lucas’ body. At that moment, Lucas felt completely relaxed, feeling his soul being released from his body, merging with Verosia, his body going limp. “We are one.”

At that moment, there was a flash of light from the beast bright enough to be seen from the chamber above, and Verosia started to whither in pain, emitting an inhuman scream that was heard only in the minds of those within reach.

Aden winced. "Damn... That... Was loud."

Verosia let out another of the inhuman screams as the water started to boil, slowly vanishing. At the bottom, the light faded, and smaller lights started to rise from around them, happiness radiating from them.

Seth plugged his ears. "Can someone tell her to shut up so we can enjoy the moment?" He said, sarcastic as ever.

“She is dead now, killed by the poisonous Black Soul.” Arto said from behind the group. “All her captive souls have been released to rest in peace.”

Aden sighed. "Good riddance, I guess."

“I congratulate all of you, for you did something that was a near impossibility.” Arto said respectively to the group.

Seth, Aden, and Azriel smiled. "It's all in the job description." Seth said quietly.

"Not the first time we break the natural rules". Sombra said, laughing, as Kain and Abel also smiled.

Azriel smiled softly. "Now I'm waiting for someone to yell "you fools, you've messed with the natural order!" and have the universe implode or something."

Aden and Seth both looked at Azriel, incredulous. "Since when did you have a sense of humor?" Aden said, surprised.

Azriel looked at the two lizards. "I think you're rubbing off on me." She said, smiling sarcastically.

Nic looked at Arto, smiling. “You are no longer bound to this place. You can leave and live a life of happiness.” He said.

Arto shook his head. “My purpose is complete. It is time for me to rest eternally.” He said, smiling. A faint aura surrounded him and he started to fade, becoming a small orb that floated along with the souls that had just been released. “Good bye, warriors of justice.”

Seth couldn't help but feel something tug at his heart, but he didn't show it. It was best not to become emotional during times like this.

Seth turned to the group. "We can't do any more here. So let's head back and have a much needed break."

Nic looked at Seth, his eyes a bright blue. “I agree.” He said, then opened a vortex in front of the group. “Anyone care for some of The Drink?” He asked, walking to the portal.

"First," Aden said, putting a hand on Nic's shoulder. "How about you fix my burns? I can barely walk like this. It's a miracle I got this far."

Nic turned and pulled out the Cultists Dagger, scratching him with it to heal his wounds, then putting it away again. “That should make you feel a lot better now.” He said as Aden’s skin healed, then walked through the portal.

Aden shivered. "Yeah, but it always feels so weird when you heal that fast. It makes your skin feel really... I dunno, tight, I guess." He shrugged and walked through the portal, followed by Seth and Azriel.

"The last one that gets to the pub won’t drink" Abel said as he passed though the portal, followed by Sombra, then Kain and Ziel.

Ziel sighed. "I don’t drink."
Part Fourteen: The Final Conversation
The group appeared in the street in front of the pub, the street crowded as people tried to rebuild their homes. They looked at the group as they appeared, but went back to work just as quickly. The sun was low in the sky as it neared night.

Seth sighed. "The damages weren't severe, but it'll take a bit to fix it all."

“That is true, but as you should know, they are used to it. So many battles have been fought here, so it is nothing new.” Nic said.

Aden nodded in agreement. "That is very true. However, they must grow tired of having to rebuild time and time again.

“Only in the most severe of attacks, do they need to rebuild. Most things are just minor demons.” Nic stated.

"Yeah, though they know how to defend themselves  with stones." Sombra said sarcastically.

Aden rolled his eyes. "That was one time, Sombra."

"I still got a piece of a stone in my head, you know." Sombra said as he walked towards the pub. "Also, my eye should be around here somewhere."

Azriel shook her head and smiled as she walked past them. "Boys..." She muttered.

The group entered the bar, seeing that it had been cleaned and repaired already, with only the bartender and another man in there. “A round of the Drink, if you don’t mind.” Nic said to the bartender as he sat down at a nearby table. Aden, Azriel, and Seth all sat at a different table and waited for the drinks.

The Demon Knights sat at another table, close to the one where Nic was. Sombra relaxed leaned back in the chair and spread his arms. "Time to drink.... good thing we won’t get drunk."

The bartender came around, setting large mugs of the Drink in front of the group, and as he set the last in front of Nic, Nic pulled out a small bag of gold and handed it to the bartender. “Take it. You deserve it.” He said and the bartender walked away, a smile on his face.

"Well, that was probably the longest misadventure we've had yet." Seth said, taking a sip of the Drink.

“Quite.” Nic said, doing the same.

"Please just enjoy the moment. One second we may be here, and another we may be in hell." Sombra took the Drink and swallowed it in one gulp.

“Won’t do any good to send us to hell. I’ve already killed the king of hell before we killed Lucas.” Nic said, smiling slightly.

"Well, that’s some interesting data, isn’t it?" Sombra said, then asked for another mug of the Drink, which came swiftly.

Azriel looked Aden in the eye. "You know, I never got to thank you for saving me. You could've died."

Aden smiled. "So? There's something different about you, and the others too. I would gladly take a hit for any of you."

Azriel smiled. "You just didn't want to see a woman get hurt."

Aden blushed and gulped down his drink, then hastily asked for another.

Nic smiled. “It looks like battle has some new rewards.”
